NZ could Host Singapore"s Fighter Jets at Ohakea 25 Februari 2017 F-15SG of the RSAF (photo : US Military Update) Singapore is eying Ohakea air base in Manawatu as a potential base for one of its own Air Force squadrons of F15 fighter jets. Up to 500 people would be stationed in or near the base in the region. Defence Minister Gerry Brownlee confirmed that the Singapore Government in undertaking a feasibility study to determine what the move would entail, including housing and education needs of family. That study needed to be completed before any proposal could be put before the Singapore or New Zealand Governments. Brownlee said that Singapore"s position in Southeast Asia so close to Malaysia and near Indoesia meant that air space was very tight. Modest Increase for Singapore"s 2017 Defence Budget 22 Februari 2017 Defence budget for 2017 is SGD14.2 billion (USD10 billion)  (photo : MediaCorp) Singapore has announced a 2017 defence budget of SGD14.2 billion (USD10 billion), a modest increase over spending the previous year. Announced by the government on 20 February, the allocations represents a 1.6% increase against the initial 2016 defence budget of SGD13.97 billion, which was subsequently revised to SGD13.83 billion, budgetary documents show. Announcing the budget, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat said the small increase is indicative of a government requirement to apply a "2% downward adjustment" across all ministries.
