Chinese Submarine Purchase Deal Now in Coordinating Process: Thai Deputy Premier 10 Maret 2017 Thailand purchase three Chinese-built submarines  (image : News Sniper) BANGKOK (Xinhua) -- Thailand"s Deputy Premier Prawit Wongsuwan said on Tuesday the Thai navy"s procurement of three Chinese-built submarines is currently in the coordinating process for a government-to-government purchase deal. Prawit, who is concurrently the defense minister, declined to tell how soon the coordinating process for the submarines purchase deal will be completed but confirmed that a regular budget for the navy to procure the first of the three Yuan-class S26T subs within this year has already been earmarked and approved for current fiscal year. His comments followed speculation that the issue would have been brought up during Tuesday"s cabinet meeting. The budget for the purchase of the first Yuan-class sub had already been approved by the Thai government and the National Legislative Assembly...

Australia to Save 25% on JSF under New Trump Deal 18 Februari 2017 RAAF F-35A Lightning II JSF (photo : RAAF) Minister for Defence Industry Christoper Pyne has confirmed a 25 per cent reduction in price of the Joint Strike Fighters (JSF) from 2014. In address to Parliament, Minister Pyne confirmed he had spoken with the newly appointed US Secretary of Defense James Mattis about the cost reduction of the JSF program. The new price agreement marks the first time that the unit price of these jets, which are being manufactured by prime contractor Lockheed Martin, is below US$100 million. The previous order, which included 55 jets for the US and 35 for partners and Foreign Military Sale customers, was US$102 million per jet. The price now stands at around US$95 million per jet, a total reduction of US$7 million per jet. The deal will also involve the maintenance of the planes, and is potentially worth billions of dollars. Tokyo in September provided unclassified information on the P-1 maritime patrol plane and C-2 transporter, both developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries, in response to Wellington"s requests. Representatives from Japan"s defense ministry and Kawasaki Heavy are in New Zealand for negotiations.
