Ultra Electronics to Design Early Warning System Techniques for Australian Navy 14 Maret 2017 Early warning system will complement existing ship-borne radar systems (photo : RAN) The Australian government last Thursday announced that it had awarded A$1.7 million to Ultra Electronics Pty Ltd to build early warning system techniques for the Australian Navy.  Ultra Electronics will develop the techniques to provide naval ships with early warning of low flying air threats, such as anti-ship missiles. Australian Tankers to Get Automatic Midair Refueling Capability 06 Maret 2017 KC-30A’s refueling boom (photo : Airbus Military) AVALON, Australia — The Royal Australian Air Force signed a research agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to develop an automatic air-to-air refueling capability for its KC-30A multirole tanker transport aircraft. Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Leo Davies signed the agreement with Airbus DS boss Fernando Alonso at the 2017 Australian International Airshow at Avalon on Thursday. The agreement will see an RAAF aircraft involved in the testing of the system, which has been under development by Airbus DS for some time. Future Australian Defence Vessel (ADV) Cape Inscription is the the second of two follow-on Cape-class boats that will be operated by the Royal Australian Navy. The first boat, ‘Cape Fourcroy’, was rolled out in December last year and is scheduled for delivery to the navy in April 2017. The first eight vessels were ordered in 2011 and entered service with the Australian Border Force from 2013 onwards. In December 2015, Austal announced a AU$63 million contract for the construction of another two boats. "The SBAS test-bed is Australia"s first exploratory step to joining countries such as the United States, Europe, China, Russia, India and Japan, which are already using the technology on a daily basis. The company announced the contract on February 6, but it was signed back in December. It did not disclose the contract value or the number of systems ordered, each of which consists of two aircraft. With an empty weight of 110 kg (243 pounds) and powered by heavy-fuel or gasoline engines, the S-100 carries a payload of 75 pounds for more than six hours; fitted with an optional external fuel tank it operates for more than 10 hours.
